Tammy Horn

What is your educational background?
I have always enjoyed drafting and creative sketches, as far back as I can remember.  My dad started out as a draftsman, and I took to drafting in school because of that.  But my career really started 26 years ago when I moved to BC to work for a Vancouver company that supplied and designed office space for a major office furniture company as a project manager and design assistant to a senior sales designer.  It sparked a passion in me that started my whole design career.  As I gained more experience, I joined a team designing kitchens and lobbies for a major fast food chain. It was during this time that I met my husband then had two children.  Having started a family, I took on a part time position as a kitchen sales designer for a fast paced, high demand big box company and mentored under the company's top Canadian 2020 designer and engineer/draftsman.  I soon became the store's top sales person and the president of the company travelled across Canada to shake my hand!  Many of my sales strategies were implemented in the stores and are still being used today.  Most recently, my journey has taken me here to the beautiful Okanagan where I continue to study, train and learn from some of the most knowledgeable, experienced, successful people in the industry.  Every day I learn something new and am humbled to work with such an amazing team, doing what I love.

What is your favourite place in the Okanagan?
There are so many - how can I pick just one? I love to go camping up in the mountains with my family - the sounds of nature are so relaxing and being together means so much to me. And, of course, there are the orchards that leave a lingering sweet smell in the air when they are in bloom. Or maybe it's sitting on a quiet beach with the sun on my face and waves gently rolling onto the shore - I like that! How about the boardwalk downtown? People watching while sipping a Gio Bean Mocha from an Adirondack chair... mmm. Although the wineries and local restaurants need a shout-out from me - let's face it, I love food and cocktails. Plus the views are spectacular! But I guess, if I had to to pick just one, it would have to be floating in the middle of the lake whether it's on a floaty, a friend's boat or just me on my back. I love the lake! It's so peaceful when you're out there looking up into the clear blue sky - it takes you to a place. It takes you to the Okanagan! Ya, that's my favourite place!
